Beautiful Paper Sculptures and Illustrations by Elsa Mora
Elsa Mora was born and raised in Cuba. Growing up in Cuba for mora was not the easiest hurdle to
overcome. Many of Mora's family members dealt with mental illness as well as her family living below the poverty line. This outcome of Mora's situation helped her found an interest in understanding people. Through Mora’s in his interest in people, she discovered that art is a great way to understand individuals. As well as her struggles with poverty helped her realize that the most important thing in life is your mind. Creativity and imagination can solve any problem whether physical or emotional.
In 2001 Mora moved to the US to pursue a career as an artist. Mora decided to settle in New York City in 2014 as she focused more on paper sculptures artwork. Also, Mora at that time was the curator for the Art Yard, an alternative contemporary art Gallery. Mora has taught and been a visiting artist at various universities in galleries all-over North America. Mora has a permanent collection at the National Museum of women in the arts in Washington DC, as well as at the Long Beach Museum in California.
Mora’s goal is to help “strengthen communities through the transformative powers of art, collaboration, and creativity”. Moras's artwork is a metaphor for her mind. The organic shapes and unique impressions of forms create intricate and delicate paper sculptures. Each art piece has a unique texture as different dimensions pop through the layered paper. Mora adds pops of muted colours throughout each art piece. The paper sculptures illustrate forms of other humans in a unique childlike way. I get lost well looking at these beautiful art pieces because of the tiny details sprinkled throughout each art piece. It's fascinating how more tells her stories through each detail on the sculptures. Through my research, I have found that Morris is branched into the digital realm of art while making animation from her iPad.
